2023 Presidency: Find out who your favourite celebrities are voting for
Among the trio of Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu, here are the choices of some Nigerian influencers for the presidency. Find out your fave's.
The 2023 presidential election in Nigeria is around the corner, barely six days from now with the race undoubtedly among the trio of Labour Party’s Peter Obi, Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and All Progressives Congress’ Bola Tinubu.
The atmosphere is tense and perhaps more than ever before, citizens across the country’s six geo-political zones are raring to cast their ballots and ensure that their candidate emerges.
Even though we have established that celebrities would make terrible politicians in the previous issue, it doesn’t affect their right to vote come February 25th.
Here are a list of politically-inclined Nigerian celebrities and the presidential candidate that will earn their vote at the booth:
P Square
The Okoye brothers are unapologetic supporters of Peter Obi and it is no secret that ethnicity is one of the reasons fuelling their political stance. They hail from the same state, Anambra, and left to them alone, Peter Obi would be president already.
Brymo
The singer continues to hug a lot of controversies and it is chiefly down to one reason: his unflinching support for Bola Tinubu and his apparent aversion to the Ndi Igbo. What Tinubu did for Olawale we don’t know but he has an unflinching loyalist in the Brain Gain crooner.
Funke Akindele
The renowned Jenifa persona is the running mate of Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran aka Jandor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In other words, she stands a chance to be the deputy governor of Nigeria’s most lucrative state. By association, the candidate of her party, Atiku Abubakar, gets her vote.
Banky W
Banky W contested on the platform of the Modern Democratic Party but realised the importance of party structure when he came agonisingly close to winning. Now he’s contesting on the platform of the PDP and it is easy to predict that he will be voting PDP on the day - Atiku all the way.
Mr Macaroni
Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’ Adedayo has seen hell in the hands of the ruling party. Since the #EndSARS movement of 2020, he’s been the subject of harassment multiple times.
Peter Obi and Labour Party didn’t need to do much to get his vote. He’s had enough and is now #OBIdient.
Davido
The DMW boss may not have been his bubbling self since his son’s tragic incident but his allegiance is undoubtedly to the PDP. His uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the governor of Osun State, for whom he campaigned vigorously. Should he step out to vote on Saturday, he’s likely going to be #Atikulate.
Kate Henshaw
The widely acclaimed ‘ageless queen’ has also been vocal about her support for Peter Obi. She’s among the set of celebs who say they are tired of the status quo and want an overhaul of power at the centre.
Portable
Is it difficult to know who would get Portable’s vote on February 25th? He has campaigned for the APC, PDP and Accord Party. He’s yet to do anything for the Labour Party though. So, it’s possible that he fills the missing gap at the booth. Obviously, Portable is for the highest bidder. Good luck deciphering who that is.
9ice
Despite lambasting and name-calling the likes of Obasanjo, Tinubu, [Atiku] Abubakar, Fani-Kayode and everyone in power on tracks like Pete pete, Economy and Oro, Abolore Akande came out recently for a pro-Tinubu march and despite losing a House of Rep bid some years ago, it’s apparent that he’s still APC and #BATified.
Mercy Eke
Because of Peter Obi, the Big Brother Naija reality TV star became Joseph the dreamer and her choice is clear - #Obidient. It remains to be seen, though, if her dreams do really come true. February 25th is here.
Frank Edoho
The popular Who Wants to be a Millionaire host is unequivocal about who he is casting his vote for. He believes so much in the Anambra-born aspirant and looks forward to his tenure. #Obidient
Nollywood Veterans: Jide Kosoko, Zack Orji, Ebun Oloyede, Taiwo Hassan, Foluke Daramola, Saheed Balogun, Faithia Williams, Desmond Elliot, Bimbo Akintola
These veterans have come out en masse to declare their support for Bola Tinubu and given that he’s been their patron for long, it is quite understandable, to the chagrin of tweeps. They are members of APC’s Presidential Campaign Council and stand resolute behind Jagaban. BAT smiles at these ones.
These are the choices of some of your favourite celebrities. But who will YOU be voting for? Let us know in the comment section.
Nice write up 👏
