Artistes looking to make a statement in 2023 (1)
Talents may abound in the Nigerian music industry but these ones have what it takes to shine.
Only three months have passed in 2023 but the events that have happened so far in the music industry make it feel like more time has passed, such is the gravity.
Davido is the rave of the moment as his latest album, Timeless, continues to shatter and set every record possible for an Afrobeats album. Davido has laid down the marker, and a number of artistes are now gearing up to pick it up from him.
Here are some of the artistes who are raring to make a statement this year:
1. King Leu
Following the release of 2018 single, African diva, which was produced by the famous Pheelz, Ayodeji Ogunmodede, popular as King Leu, has been on a slow but steady rise in the music industry.
King Leu enjoys exploring multiple genres, rather than be boxed into one music box as he believes that his talent transcends just one genre. When you listen to his latest single, Yolo, which he features Zamora on, the singer’s dexterity and flexibility come to the fore as he shows that he can flow seamlessly on Afrobeats and Highlife, among other genres.
For a singer, songwriter and producer who gets inspired by nature, music lovers will find his music soothing. King Leu is a talent to watch out for.
2. Fave
Fave is highly rated and you only need to look at the stars who have sought collaborations with her - Olamide, Simi and Davido to name the most popular. Her EP, Riddim 5, did really well last year and she won the Headies’ Rookie of the Year award, unsurprisingly.
Now, her growing fanbase feels the time is ripe for GodsFavour Chidozie to drop an album and expectations will be high for an artiste who has never put the wrong foot forward so far in her career.
3. Senth
Ernest Felix, otherwise known as Senth, was unveiled to much fanfare by the legendary YBNL boss, Olamide, last year. He released an EP, Dragger, to mark his entry into the music space but the noise has since fizzled out and his failure to make an impact seems odd considering the success rate of signees at YBNL.
Asake has absorbed all the attention at YBNL but this year is another opportunity for Senth to show why Olamide thought to invest in him.
