Singer RiNE and skit makers taking the music industry by storm
Fast-rising music star RiNE shines bright on his latest singles, rounding off 2023 in a spectacular fashion while online comedians would not be left behind in the business of music.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It’s our first official issue for the year and you deserve immense thanks for being a part of the community. May the year be a productive one for all of us.
2023 was a big year for Afrobeats as numerous wins were recorded from all and sundry. The one that many didn’t see coming was skit makers deciding to carry their comic garbs into the studio. Producers are heavily involved in the process of music creation, so, it is not out of place to see them aspire to be full-time artistes. The case of disc jockeys too is understandable but comics? It feels a bit weird.
Nonetheless, Nasboi, real name Nasiru Lawal, would not be limited by weird feelings and his rib-cracking exploits but instead use them to propel himself onto the music scene. With his funny personality and content creation skills, he grabbed a mic, recorded and released his debut single, Umbrella.
Not that many cared that he sang Umbrella during the dry season, his song soon got onto charts and became an anthem on social media. His promotion efforts, enlisting countless celebrities, were legendary. He really hawked the song and it’s a pioneering effort from him, considering that the song defied the expectations critics had of a skit maker. Wande Coal’s vocals were also fitting.
In no time, Samuel Perry, whom you know as Broda Shaggi, came out with his, Ijo Loka. His single was distinct from Nasboi’s in that he toed the Fuji line for his single, which the legendary Pasuma featured on. It was a song Fuji and neo-Fuji artistes would have been proud of. His single was a continuation of the impact that Fuji has had on Afrobeats.
Dammy Krane, LKT, 9ice, Koker, Asake and Seyi Vibez, to name a few, are a number of music stars who have impressively incorporated Fuji elements into Afrobeats music products. Broda Shaggi now appears to have joined the club.
Remarkable RiNE ready to reign
Unlike Shaggi and Nasboi, fast-rising music talent RiNE didn’t have a comic background to leverage for his music career. Nonetheless, his music prowess has shone forth in the two singles he recently released, Sarah Bonita and Anita Lopez.
On Sarah Bonita, RiNE, real name Ayokunle Oluwarinu, brings an enchanting melody that resonates with the chords of his emotions. Possessing a captivating blend of grace and charm that ignites a gentle fire within his soul and with every gaze, the singer finds himself drawn into a world where time seems to stand still.
Anita Lopez, on the other hand, is a beauty that encompasses strength and capacity to achieve the impossible. Anita is an anchor on a stormy sea, a soothing balm, an unwavering pillar of strength, and a beacon of generosity that guides RiNE through the darkest hours.
On the two tracks, RiNE showcases his distinct voice, pop magic and lyrical prowess, fuelled by an ambition to - in his words - “do more than just make hit records but also create magical moments with music.”
